The HeartBox is a charitable project intended to help the less fortunate, and even homeless, men, women and children in our local area. Volunteers fill boxes with items these people need and which most of us take for granted. Items like shampoo, toothbrushes, deodorant and small gifts like journals, hats, and gloves are some of the common items that fill a HeartBox. School supplies, candy and craft items as well as religious items are also great to include in a HeartBox.
During the holidays, HeartBoxes are wrapped in bright festive paper and often end up being a persons only Christmas gift. These gifts spread the love of Jesus to many who need it most. They also provide giving opportunities to those who want to help and are looking for ways to do God's work. Many families provide a HeartBox from each member in their family. It's a great way to teach children the importance of spreading joy and love to those who need it.
The holidays, however, are not the only time a HeartBox is needed. People need help all year long. HeartBoxes can be given any time and are always appreciated. They can contain garden tools and a pack of seeds for the lady who likes to garden but is struggling to pay the rent; it can contain homemade preserves from a harvests bounty, or sun block and sunglasses in summer.
It's easy to make a HeartBox. Simply find an empty shoe box, paste or draw a big heart on the lid and fill it with your gifts. Then give the box to a neighbor, friend or church organization or donate it directly to The HeartBox project and we will drop it off at a homeless shelter or family in need. It doesn't need to be fancy, just full of love.
Help us register the number of HeartBoxes given. Send an email to heartbox@heartbox.com. Enter a brief description of the box you gave and how many if more than one. Indicate what city the box was given and lets see this project spread from place to place. You can even in include a photo of your box. Print and include the Heartbox gift tag that will help your recipient forward the kindness on to someone else. It's all about forwarding kindness, one person at a time.
